2024/25 season
This is the programme for Bingley Camera Club Monday night meetings for the 2024/25 season. Our meetings start at 7 pm and we aim to finish by 9 pm. All our meetings are in person at the club, and we always aim to broadcast the meeting by Zoom to members who are unable to come in person.
We also have public google calendar with all of the events, get togethers and other photography related events that might be of interest to club members. We will run extra sessions during the season around the needs of members e.g. using photo-editing software.
SEPTEMBER 2024
02 - Club Social - Members and those thinking about becoming members are welcome to join us for a few drinks and social chat at The Potting Shed, Bingley. Address - 94 Main St, Bingley BD16 2JH (7 pm start)
09 Helen Williams Harrogate-based commercial and fine-art photographer talks about her exceptional work in portraiture including TV, sport and more besides. Helen's Website
16- Practical night. Bring your camera to the club. A chance to get out with others and take photographs (outdoors and indoors, weather dependent). Learn from others about making the most of your kit, with a walking workshop for less experienced photographers who want to 'get out of auto mode'.
23 - Journey of a photograph. This hands-on session will provide an overview of the journey of a photograph from the camera to finished image with the emphasis on preparing digital and print images for camera club competitions We encourage members to bring some images for processing and we will have a number of workstations set up for people to develop their skills through small group work. For advanced members it is the opportunity to share and learn some advanced photoshop trickery.
30 - Richard Davis - My 40 year obsession. Richard is a social documentary and portrait photographer who moved to Manchester in 1988 to study photography and lived and documented everyday life in Hulme, which, at the time, was the largest public housing development in Europe. As well as his now-historical work, he continues to document everyday life in the urban North. Richard's Website

04 - Carolyn Mendelsohn - Portraits, Projects and Personal Stories. We welcome back Carolyn, Bradford based award-winning portrait photographer, Royal Photographic Society Ambassador and Nikon Ambassador. Her recent work includes portraits of young people for the Age of Wonder project and Hardy and Free exploring women's connection to nature in the Bradford District. Carolyn will share some of her most recent work and her approach to her subjects. Carolyn's Website

18 - Tracey Lund - A Month in a the Falklands (Wildlife Part III). Multi-award winning wildlife photographer Tracey returns to the club to talk about her month in the Falklands. Tracey's Website

06 -Michela Griffith Scotland-based photographer and artist Michela is inspired by nature and place and produces fluid, evocative and abstract images. In this Zoom presentation, she will talk about evolving vision and practice through curiosity, connection and creative process. Michela's Website
13 -Nine by nine by nine. Nine club members talk about nine of their images, each having nine minutes to do so. We particularly encourage newer members to share their work in these evenings.

17 -Karina Lax Sheffield based Karina was a Winner of Portrait of Britain in 2023 and has portraits of contemporary women in the arts exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, amongst other accolades. Karina likes to photograph real people largely on location, blending techniques from editorial, fashion, documentary, and photojournalistic photography, with a semi-directed approach. 24 - President's challenge. This year's topic is 'Is that really real?' Inspired by the 1917 Cottingley Fairies, this year's challenge has been for members to produce a picture containing something from a fairytale, fantasy, myth or belief or anything else that (probably) doesn't exist. Expect fairies, ghosts, spirits, flying saucers and impossible animals.

We also encourage members to organise their own photographic get-togethers – the club secretary can circulate details to all members by email (not everyone uses the Facebook or WhatsApp groups) or they can be added by committee members to the calendar (below). Our club has a number of member-led special interest groups including Wildlife, Creative, Landscape, Music Photography that have regular meet ups. Contact our club secretary if you want to be put in touch with any of these groups. We are always happy for new groups to be set up.
The club supports our annual summer expeditions '5-go photographing' where groups of club members visit a particular location of their own choosing and enjoy a day or evening of photography and the different perspectives that each individual brings. We set aside two club nights for the group presentations.
